This year’s “Women in Computing” day was a great success!! We had a total of 36 young ladies between the ages of 8 and 14. Thank you to all of our volunteers for helping – we couldn’t have done it without you! And thank you to those who signed up your family members/friends! It was great seeing familiar faces as well as new ones.
The girls participated in many fun activities that involved programming Furbys, creating circuit boards, designing custom apps, and putting together innovative game controllers with play dough and crafts. The girls enjoyed delicious pizza for lunch, wore cool shirts and took home USB bracelets with the Next Century logo – an awesome crowd pleaser!
One of the activities the girls participated in was recreating Flappy Bird – a fun application for mobile devices. If any of the participants of the day would like to continue this project feel free to pass along the link.
The keynote speaker this year was Courtney Thurston – a brilliant young lady who inspired us all. Only 17 – but already a great achiever in the wonderful world of technology! For more information on Courtney you can go to her LinkedIn profile here.
